This is an important announcement regarding Game Electives

For students who have passed your NAPFA, hurray! (Boys- silver, Girls- Bronze):
Please Select 5 electives from the list below and rank them in order of preference. Availability of the games will depend on the sign up rate. PE dept reserves the right not to conduct any games should there be insufficient students.

For those who are on long term MC:
if you are able to participate in physical activity, please select 5 electives from the list and rank them in order of preference. You are expected to report for PE lessons as per normal.

For those who have signed up as student instructors:
1. Student instructors will teach only 1 period per week. You are expected to sign up for game electives for the other period.
2. Student instructors are to select 5 electives from the given list. Rank them in order of preference.
3. Student instructors will be asked to teach only if there are enough sign-up to start the class.
4. Student instructors who did not pass the NAPFA test, or had not completed NAPFA will not be allowed to teach.

If you are not anticipating any intense studying sessions yet, this should get into your mind NOW: (say this pledge please)
"hello Mr/Mz March block test! I swear i will conquer you, make sure you don't challenge my intelligence, prevent you from going down the drain, and give me all the As that i deserve. (and being a proud MJ student, you know clearly more than anyone else that you OUGHT TO/HAVE TO/MUST study haaaaard in order to DESERVE the As)"

You will most probably go.. " huh... how to study hard. I study also cannot get good grades... :( " Relax ok? There's still hope in this one precious week.
I can't emphasise this enough but just a cliche yet valuable advice from the study guru,

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
Plan your March holidays time wisely.
don't do unecessary things and regret after that, knowing you could jolly well have used the time to study for the extra marks needed.

It isn't the really major exam like your Alvls yet. but as quoted from the teachers, this will be a real gauge as to how well prepared you are, at this stage, for the coming A levels.
so, in other words, you choose your own destiny yeah?

anyway, just a gentle reminder, complete the following before chem consultation:

MBT revision package
ALL organic Exercises (don't worry, it's really just the basics)
memorise the 5 mechanisms: FRS, EA, ES, SN2 (NS), NA
Memorise (and know how to apply) ALL concept maps (we've done this a couple of times already right? haha)
Learn how to draw alpha-helix and Beta pleated sheet in proteins structure
Write down or take note of all doubts to ask Ms Ong

As for maths, it is strongly advisable for you to print out the past year MBT papers and practice on them
For econs, do e-learning. ( i think it's on exchange-rate determination... there's alot of the e lessons available so i don't know which it is.. but there's only assessment on the exchange rate determination)
For physics, you heard what Dr Vaz said. don't just spend your time on one subject, or rather other subjects, alone. Revise your tutorials and lecture notes and attempt the TYS qns.
For GP.. i don't really have any idea of what to do, but there's GP consultation slots available on Saturday, 9-11am.

P.S : take note that this is not for self-indulgence but for a real purpose in motivating you 08S203 folks to get hyped up in studying. :D

Slowdowns in US, Eurozone, Japan and Asia --> lower income as well as les optimistic business outlook and lower consumer confidence --> lower demand for consumer goods including imports from Singapore. Demand for imported goods are income-induced. As a result, Singapore will reduce exports to these regions --> fall in net export --> multiple contraction of national income and hence negative economic growth in singapore.

The global financial and economic shocks will be transmitted to domestic economic activity both directly and indirectly. The global financial crisis 2008/2009 and the resultant squeeze in liquidity and credit impinge on domestic economic activities in 3 main ways:

Firstly, the crisis has an immediate impact on the sentiment-driven segments on the financial sector, such as wealth advisory and brokerage & treasury activities.
Second, as consumer sentiment weakens, this has a direct bearing on domestic-oriented activities such as retail trade and those related to the property market.
Third, the repercussions on the external-oriented sectors come indirectly through a widespread contraction in economic activity and a sharp pull back in spending in the external economies, including Asia. Given open nature of Singapore economy, a large proportion of the industries such as manufacturing, transport-hub and tourist services are quickly affected by the fall in external demand.

Subsequently, as business conditions worsen, companies’ profits margins are squeezed, forcing them to curtail investment spending and cut back on employment and wages. This later in turn further dampens consumer sentiment and consumption, thus exacerbating the contraction in domestic-oriented activities. As a result, Singapore economic growth has been negatively impacted.

Saw this while blog hopping and decided to find the actual article.

Polytechnic Student dies before exam.

He threw up his lunch and then followed by a lot of blood, while studying halfway with friends.

Was thinking like how many of us are already falling sick and looking so pale during lessons. So even though we want to score good grades for our March block tests, lecture tests to come as well as the A'levels, please don't push your body over the limits. Drink plenty of water and have a good diet + exercise regularly.

I know this is random.

Oh well, just take care guys.

Righto. A few of us discussed online a little regarding the CNY decoration yesterday night.
And these are the following suggestions:
1) Draw an Ox/Bull/Cow on the board. A few suggestions for the pic of the ox/bull cow...

2) Border the board with 'O' and 'X' (OXOXOX)
3) Interesting Information on CNY : different holidays in different countries

..Sorry i forgot the rest of the suggestions as most of the time we were crapping.. but do fill it in for me.

Basically, we're gonna paste the board with mahjong paper first, then border it with something (hong bao??) to represent the OXOXOX, draw and paint the ox/bull/cow, write the interesting cny info on 'scrolls' and paste it on the board. the rest are still up to the class to decide.

In the meanwhile, please kindly bring whatever markers, paint, HONG BAOS, or cny decorations you have at home.
Those who are unable to help in the decoration after schl on monday, please also inform wen eng.

CNY notice board decorations competition

Tasks:
1. Each JC2 CG is to decorate their CG home room(in our case, ~~e2-2~~ e3-2 [paiseh for typing wrongly]) notice board according to the theme:"A Blissful year" and/or on the year of Ox.
2. Each CG is to incorporate some interesting facts about CNY(e.g. Introduction of Chinese New Year flowers, traditions, symbolism of practices, food etc) in their decoration. It is highly encouraged to put up the information in Chinese and a different laguage(e.g. Chinese and English, Chinese and Malay) so that students from other racial groups can also learn about the traditions and culture of CNY(This component is taken into account for judging)
3. All decorations must be completed by Tuesday, 20th January 2009

but before you embrace the start of a JC2 life (oh so sorry if it sounds old.. =x), please be aware of the following:

1) report to classroom E3-2 on the 1st day of school before 7.30am. timetable will then be given.
2) bring you GC for MATHS TEST!!! (graphing techniques; differentiation incl. applications)
3) ...and most importantly, don't forget to bring YOURSELF. There will be goodies leftover from the BBQ waiting for you. :P
4) also equally important, rest well and make sure your eyelids won't rest during lessons :D

and then we will be going to tampines GIANT to purchase the food.

If you're taking public transport to Dr vaz's house, take bus 81 from pasir ris int to kovan MRT, and then bus 70 (10 stops..) to somewhere near serenity park, and then walk to his house as shown on the above map. [alternative but longer method: take bus 39 from pasir ris to yishun mrt and then take bus 854]
that's the shortest route we can find unless you want to take cab.

talking about cab, some of us we'll be taking taxi there from giant tampines since the food is rather heavy (like the bee hoon). It is more advisable if you share a cab there bcos the cost will be around the same and it takes a much much shorter time. :D

SO meet at downtown east bus stop at 11.45am (have your own lunch first). If you can't make it at the point of time, you can always join us later at tampines giant go to Dr vaz's house straightaway.

Congratz everybody for making your way through the promos, WR, OhPee and there's only one last stop left which is you I&R! :D

this blog has been stagnant for quite sometime so i hope some of us can help revive it!

Anyways, Class outing will be tentatively on thursday, 6th nov. Among the choices of buffet, pool and karaoke, most of you guys chose buffet, followed by pool, and lastly karaoke. so it'll most probably be a halal buffet at some sushi outlet (bring at least $20). After which, we can go have some other activities. If you all think that it's too costly, please suggest some stuff we can do which is not too costly :D

I hope all of you can and will participate in this class outing as it might be the last ever class outing this year (besides going to Dr vaz's house) ! Timing and activities to be confirmed latest by tuesday. :D

Remember the E-learning u hav to do during the weekends/ staff-well being day cum students-non-well-being day?
well, 1st thing, note that there's elearning for every subject including GP. The e-learning studios for physics and chem is also hidden inside the "lectures" part. Happy elearning!

2nd thing: Remeber to sign up for compass elective by monday

3rd thing: all GPPs by monday evening

4th thing: do your PBL (Problem-based-learning)

5th thing: finish up allllllll your tutorials, assignments etc.

6th thing: remember to bring $7.50 for the N.E trip movie.

7th thing: Study well for the upcoming maths and physics lecture tests

8th thing: rest well and take care. promos is in 7 weeks time and you won't want to miss the exam bcos your body prevents you to do so.

last but not least thing: Prepare for promos. serious. study and revise and practise past topics whenever you have the free time to. Don't be too busy with other stuff and leave some romantic time for yourself and your notes. you wouldn't want to have information failure, literally.

I believe every member of our class deserves to get promoted, so let's all work really hard together and don't dissapoint Dr vaz! make use of the precious holiday we have and buck up on wadeva we can.

Each man gives a story

Three men were standing in line to get into heaven one day. Apparently it had been a pretty busy day, though, so Peter had to tell the first one, "Heaven's getting pretty close to full today, and I've been asked to admit only people who have had particularly horrible deaths. So what's your story?"

So the first man replies: "Well, for a while I've suspected my wife has been cheating on me, so today I came home early to try to catch her red-handed. As I came into my 25th floor apartment, I could tell something was wrong, but all my searching around didn't reveal where this other guy could have been hiding. Finally, I went out to the balcony, and sure enough, there was this man hanging off the railing, 25 floors above ground! By now I was really mad, so I started beating on him and kicking him, but wouldn't you know it, he wouldn't fall off. So finally I went back into my apartment and got a hammer and starting hammering on his fingers. Of course, he couldn't stand that for long, so he let go and fell -- but even after 25 stories, he fell into the bushes, stunned but okay. I couldn't stand it anymore, so I ran into the kitchen, grabbed the fridge and threw it over the edge where it landed on him, killing him instantly. But all the stress and anger got to me, and I had a heart attack and died there on the balcony."

"That sounds like a pretty bad day to me," said Peter, and let the man in.

The second man comes up and Peter explains to him about heaven being full, and again asks for his story.

"It's been a very strange day. You see, I live on the 26th floor of my apartment building, and every morning I do my exercises out on my balcony. Well, this morning I must have slipped or something, because I fell over the edge. But I got lucky, and caught the railing of the balcony on the floor below me. I knew I couldn't hang on for very long, when suddenly this man burst out onto the balcony. I thought for sure I was saved, when he started beating on me and kicking me. I held on the best I could until he ran into the apartment and grabbed a hammer and started pounding on my hands. Finally I just let go, but again I got lucky and fell into the bushes below, stunned but all right. Just when I was thinking I was going to be okay, this refrigerator comes falling out of the sky and crushes me instantly, and now I'm here."

Once again, Peter had to concede that that sounded like a pretty horrible death.

The third man came to the front of the line, and again Peter explained that heaven was full and asked for his story. "Picture this," says the third man, "I'm hiding inside a refrigerator..."

After a gruelling period of mid years and waiting of results, we've finally gotten back most of the (atrocious) papers. Sad to say, we'll not be able to enjoy pizza from Dr vaz.. T__T ok that's not the point. The point is, we all know that most of us have done not so well (don't be disheartened if you fall under this category :D) and have reflected upon ourselves. Hence, I believe each and everyone of us are determined to work hard for the promos and not dissapoint our dear teachers and most importantly ourselves. right? SO Dr vaz has agreed to book a classroom 1 day in every week specially for us to have a class study group. :D
Thus i appeal to all of you citizens of 08s203 to try your best to attend the study group so that we can all work hard together as a class (as quoted from Dr vaz)... and, share the joy of getting good results at the end of this year. :D
Let's all work together towards the end of our goal - to get promoted!

soccer match 27june08

well, if you guys still remember that we had our class outing TODAY...

supposedly we wanted to have lunch together
and go to cycle...

BUT there were so few ppl available...hai
(well, we still love you even though you cant join us today. but it's such a pity if you cant...coz it's really fun!)

the girls wanted to go to simei for a nice restaurant "eighteen chefs" but there were some disagreements, so we went to white sand food court. on our ways to white sands, the girls too some photos...so here they are:

we: zhen jie, ian, wen eng, wen juan, liting and yichen ate there. nashiran and hadi got to pray...

after lunch, zhen jie had to leave so we hung around at white sands

while waiting for wen juan to top up her ezlink, we took photos at the control station...

then we went to come place near wen eng's house to play soccer using her PIG's soccer ball^^ before the match. yup, match. Ian vs weng eng, wen juan, liting and yichen

ian was warming up.lol!

finally, a photo of ian with the girls( coz someone kept refusing to take photos with us..-.-)

erm, i think soccer is super fun but tiring too. so we were having half time

wen juan was having fun so did we^^ (it's a tetrahedral! 2-dimensional)

well, the match had ended...ian got 5, we got 4(actually not bad, coz we are greenhorns.) zi kai and kim hui wanted to join us, but wen eng, wen juan and liting had to go for movie later, so...we walked to west plaza for some drinks

At the party, Ah Ming also quite sian because the char bor all boh sui one.
Dance floor even got one ah pek dancing.
Just as Ah Ming told himself, 'Aiyah see-pay jia-lat', Singalella came in.
Ah Ming straight away lau nuar.

Singalella say ok but Ah Ming like octopus, touch here touch there.
But then just it was 12 o'clock, one ah pek die on the dance floor.
He become ghost and tell Singalella all the good 4D number.
So after that Singalella quickly go and buy 4D, and then tio tao-pio, zhit-pak ban.
So she pay back the kay-piak eh lau-kay-poh and then kah kee cho sen-lee.
Simi kuan eh sen-lee wah mana eh zhai.

ART OF MANLINESS

When most people today hear the word “virtue,” they usually don’t think “manliness.” Having virtue or being virtuous is looked at as being sissy or effeminate. In fact, we sometimes use the word in today’s vernacular to describe a woman’s sexual conduct.

However, virtue is far from being sissy or effeminate. The word “virtue” is actually rooted in “manliness.” “Virtue” comes from the Latin virtus, which in turn is derived from vir, Latin for “manliness.” Cicero, a famous Roman statesman and writer, enumerated the cardinal virtues that every man should try to live up to. They included justice, prudence, courage, and temperance. In order to have honor, a Roman man had to live each of the four virtues. When Aristotle encouraged men in the ancient world to live “the virtuous life,” it was really a call to man up.

Benjamin Franklin is an American legend. He single handily invented the idea of the “self-made man.” Despite being born into a poor family and only receiving two years of formal schooling, Franklin became a successful printer, scientist, musician, and author. Oh, and in his spare time he helped found a country, and then serve as its diplomat.

The key to Franklin’s success was his drive to constantly improve himself and accomplish his ambitions. In 1726, at the age of 20, Ben Franklin set his loftiest goal: the attainment of moral perfection.

In order to accomplish his goal, Franklin developed and committed himself to a personal improvement program that consisted of living 13 virtues. The 13 virtues were:

“TEMPERANCE. Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.”
“SILENCE. Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.”
“ORDER. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.”
“RESOLUTION. Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.”
“FRUGALITY. Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing.”
“INDUSTRY. Lose no time; be always employ’d in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.”

Hey guys! so sorry.. the design is changed a little bit cos the printing guy said it wasn't possible to print it nicely for the arrow to join from the front to the back so we just made the arrow end in the front of the tshirt. the MJC barcode will oso be together with the bird shit. the arrow and lines will be of white colour, the "uniquely 08s203' word will be lime green in colour, and the back printing will be in silver colour. :D
and due to budgeting problems, we are unable to print personalised name for you people. For now, the cost of the class tee wld be $20.
.. so pls do rmb to bring $20 when u come back to schl.. PLUS the $10 class fund if you haven't pay yet :D
And in order to help u guys cut down on expenditure but still maximise your level of satisfaction, we've decided to go cycling and eating on the outing day instead of a bbq.

...and this is the back view... The printing colour will most probably be gold on black. you all won't mind right? don't worry it's silk screen printing so quite good quality de :D

Hey guys! I've attempted to come out with designs for our class tee so u all can jus view it (click it for the larger version).. those are supposed to be for the back of the shirt.
umm i think it's abit too colourful but that can be edited. oops and i forgot to add in 'MJC' in the 2nd design..
Anyways, those who are willing and able to, please contribute some designs too so that we can have a wider variety of choices. yup and we will vote.. most probably during the elearning days :D
